Menopause and postmenopause bring profound changes to a woman’s life—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Hormonal shifts can lead to weight gain, reduced mobility, feelings of anxiety, depression, and even social withdrawal. Many women experience a loss of self-identity and a decline in social interactions, making this stage of life particularly challenging.
That’s why WomenWalking4Health was created—an Erasmus+ Sport-supported project that promotes walking as a simple, accessible, and effective way to improve physical and mental well-being during menopause and beyond. By incorporating walking into daily life, women can regain their strength, confidence, and sense of community while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

The WomenWalking4Health project is committed to helping women navigate menopause with strength, confidence, and a supportive community by:
- Encouraging low-impact physical activities that improve mobility and overall well-being.
- Creating local walking groups and community events to foster social connections.
- Promoting flexible walking habits that fit into busy schedules, even in short intervals.
- Raising awareness about safety measures such as well-lit paths and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
- Motivating women by sharing the health benefits of walking and organizing engaging activities.
In February 2025, we officially launched the project in Thessaloniki, Greece, in collaboration with our partners Physis Outdoor Training and OTI Slovakia. During this kickoff meeting, we had the opportunity to connect with our partners, share our vision, and plan future activities. We also began developing a walking programme tailored specifically for women in menopause and postmenopause, focusing on promoting physical activity, fostering social connections, and improving overall well-being. This event marked the exciting beginning of our journey to empower women across Europe through walking.
How You Can Help Us Empower Women Through Walking
In addition to our walking programme, we are also conducting research to better understand the factors that encourage or discourage women from participating in walking programs during menopause and postmenopause. We are currently looking for women who would be willing to share their experiences and insights through a short online interview. The interview will be conducted via video call and will take about 30-40 minutes of your time. Your participation will help us tailor our activities and support women in this stage of life to make walking more accessible and enjoyable. We would be grateful for your input, and we warmly invite you to join this important conversation.
