In today’s fast-paced world, families across Europe are spending more time on screens and less time engaging in physical activity together. This sedentary lifestyle not only affects health but also limits meaningful family interactions. The WALKERS project is here to change that by promoting Nordic walking as a fun, unifying, and health-enhancing activity for all family members.

Through this initiative, we aim to encourage families to swap screen time for quality time outdoors, strengthening their bonds while adopting a healthier lifestyle. The project also focuses on creating a network of professionals, trainers, and instructors who will help families integrate Nordic walking into their daily routines and promote best practices on a European level.

Project Objectives

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Getting Families Moving Together
Encouraging families to enjoy Nordic Walking as a fun and healthy way to stay active while spending quality time together.

📖 Creating a Family-Friendly Walking Programme
Developing a structured programme that makes Nordic Walking accessible and enjoyable for families of all ages and fitness levels.

🌍 Building a Community of Experts
Connecting trainers, instructors, and professionals across Europe to inspire and support families in leading a more active lifestyle.

Our project officially began with a Kick-off Meeting in Vienna, where we laid the groundwork for the exciting journey ahead. A key focus of the meeting was planning the upcoming international mobility, which will take place from May 26–30 in Krk, Croatia. Beyond planning, the meeting was a great opportunity to meet our project partners, align our goals, and kick-start collaboration. With shared enthusiasm and commitment, we successfully outlined the next steps for the WALKERS project, ensuring a strong foundation for promoting Nordic walking as a family-friendly sport across Europe.

International Mobility in Croatia

One of the highlights of the WALKERS project is the international mobility program in Croatia, where 24 family members will come together for an enriching cross-cultural experience. This mobility will provide participants with an opportunity to:

  • Learn from experienced Nordic walking trainers in a unique outdoor setting.
  • Take part in interactive workshops and activities designed to boost family participation in sports.
  • Connect with families from different countries, sharing experiences and motivation.
  • Gain hands-on experience in Nordic walking techniques, tailored to various fitness levels and abilities.

The mobility will not only enhance participants’ understanding of Nordic walking as a sport but also inspire them to adopt it as a long-term family activity, bringing its benefits home to their communities.
