The SIASP project focuses on promotion of sustainable transport and encouraging children and their parents to choose cycling as a healthy way to get to sports and extracurricular activities. The idea of the project stemmed from the fact, that many people do very limited physical activity – research shows they spend a significant amount of time traveling between various places each day —such as commuting from home to school, heading to sports clubs, or visiting friends, instead of choosing a healthier alternative. As a results, partners from Finland, Austria and Slovakia created the SIASP project to help tackle the lack of physical activity among families and create more opportunities for active mobility.

The project focuses on two main groups. First, low-income families, where children often can’t participate in sports activities because they don’t have a way to get there. Second, families with “helicopter parents” who drive their kids everywhere to keep them safe, but this can prevent children from becoming independent. The project also works with local authorities to stress the need for safe and easy-to-reach sports facilities and bike-friendly infrastructure.

Good Practices on Sustainable Mobility

Part of our project are study visits organised in Austria, Finland and Slovakia during which we collect good practices regarding sustainable mobility, accessible sport facilities and overall cycling infrastructure in all 3 countries. Read more about the visit to Austria and Finland!

Results of the project

The SIASP project has produced two key publications highlighting its outcomes. These publications provide valuable insights and practical guidelines for promoting sustainable mobility and increasing access to sports activities through active travel:
