The BONTS project celebrated its final conference in Larnaca, Cyprus, from September 27 to 29, 2024. This event, coordinated by Active Zone Outdoor and supported by Erasmus+ Sport programme, brought together 18 youth workers, educators, and sports professionals from partner countries to showcase the project’s achievements and share valuable insights.
The three-day conference in Larnaca marked both the peak of BONTS’ achievements and a valuable chance for practical learning. Participants took part in training sessions centred on creating and executing family-focused sports activities. These workshops highlighted the significance of adaptive sports, providing participants with essential skills to plan inclusive events that accommodate people of all ages and abilities.
Community Outreach and Sport Activities
To promote the project’s goals among diverse community members, the consortium organised several interactive sports activities around Larnaca:
- Adaptive Beach Tennis at Kamares Primary School: This event encouraged pupils and parents to bond through sport. The activity emphasised teamwork, with participants collaborating and experiencing the social benefits of sports.
- Family Orientation in Agios Theodoros: In this picturesque village, families engaged in an orientation activity designed to foster cooperation and communication. The game allowed families to explore local landmarks while enjoying quality time together.
Additionally, partners had a chance to visit the Dikeoma Elpidas Center and organise adaptive sports like beach tennis, football, yoga, and seated volleyball for people with disabilities, enhancing social inclusion. The Center also hosted the BONTS conference, where stakeholders discussed the project’s impact and explored ways to sustain its legacy within communities.
Launch of the BONTS Handbook
A key milestone of the project was the release of the Handbook of Family-Adaptive Sport Activities. This comprehensive guide contains 12 adapted sport practices aimed at fostering family connections, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging healthy lifestyles. It serves as an invaluable resource for sport experts and youth workers, outlining activities that accommodate various age groups and fitness levels.
Another results of the BONTS project such the Recommendations for creating adapted sport activities and Know-How Manual on organising family events are all available on the project website.
